Bhediya Movie Story:
Amar Kaushik’s Bhediya is a comic-horror movie which revolves around Bhaskar Sharma (Varun Dhawan), a construction contractor, who travels to the dense jungles of Ziro in Arunachal Pradesh with a plan to build a concrete road through a forest area.Soon after reaching the forest area in Arunachal, Bhaskar gets bitten by a wolf that turns him into a werewolf. This changes the course of Bhaskar’s life upside down. What follows is a series of unnatural deaths in the area creating a fear psychosis. What happens to him and whether or not he is able to continue to complete the task of building the road and how he deals with the concerns of the locals is what the story of Bhediya is all about. Although the movie makes a gripping start, it somehow fails to maintain the momentum all throughout. The main issue with the movie is that the makers struggle to create the right balance between comedy and horror. As a result, the narrative strains to make the desired impact. As the run of play progresses, the intermittent shift in the tone and tenor of the movie, from comedy to horror or vice versa, isn’t smooth or convincing. Having said that, the movie would leave you in splits in somne scenes which are well executed. However, it is the VEX effect that turns out to be the most effective part of the movie. What also works for the movie is that it never becomes too preachy on environmental concerns or man-animal conflict and yet manages to get the message across. Varun does an impressive job and so do the other actors who essay the role of Bhaskar’s companions, Guddu (Abhishek Banerjee), Jomin (Paalin Kabak) and veterinarian Anika (Kriti Sanon).
